Shoji Ueda Museum of Photography Shoji Ueda Museum of Photography is in Houki town, western Tottori prefecture. This museum exhibits the works of the world-famous photographer Shoji Ueda. It opened in the town next to Sakaiminato, which is Mr. Ueda's hometown. The modern design, consisting of four white concrete buildings, is based on the motif of Ueda's masterpiece "The Girl's Four States'' and is designed to harmonize with the surrounding rural landscapes and Mt. Daisen. The building is like a picture frame that beautifully encompasses the scenery of Mt. Daisen, an ideal museum design for Mr. Ueda who loved the mountain. Mr. Ueda's distinctive style is so highly valued that it created a new genre titled "UEDA-Cho (Ueda tone)", and his works continue attracting people even in modern times. The museum exhibits 15,000 works, including photographs focusing on combining innovative ideas and the Tottori sand dunes. It is said to be a sacred place for camera lovers. The Video Exhibition Room which is equipped with the world's largest camera lens, lets you experience the feeling of being inside a camera.

Mount Daisen Mount Daisen locates in the western portion of Tottori prefecture. It is the highest mountain the Chugoku region, and measures 1,709 meters high. The mountain is a part of the Daisen-Oki National Park. In the summer, Mount Daisen is a popular trekking spot, and serves as a ski/snowboarding destination in the winter. The mountain also has beautiful night views and a lovely fall foliage, and is enjoyable any time of year. Nearby the mountain, there are several historical spots like shrines and traditional buildings. The restaurants around Mount Daisen serve foods from the mountain and fresh seafood, as the ocean is not located too far away.
